A 6-7 hour Dumaguete Tour takes you to the popular Rizal Boulevard; named after Philippines national hero Dr. Jose Rizal (who actually made a stopover here on his way to his exite at Dapitan) a popular 780-meter strip of wide beachfront promenade. It runs almost totally along the city's commercial district. Restaurants and bars line the streets. A place for many occasions inclusing festivals, parades and street dance while sailboat racing goes on at the beach. In this bustling downtown area is the City Public Market filled with tiny stalls and rows of tables stacked with local fresh produce. Visit the Dumaguete Belfry, Bell Tower of St. Catherine of Alexandria constructed in 1811. It served as a watchtower for forth coming attacks by aggressors back then. Today it calls the faithfull for their regular mass. At its base devotees flock the grotto of Virgin Mary to light a candle for their prayer requests. 20 minutes from Valencia town proper, are the man-made springs and pools more popularly known as Tejeros, the Banica Swimming Lagoon. A resort that has two man-made pools fed from the water of Banica River. It is a favorite destination among informal gatherings and picnic lovers because of its natural and almost rugged setting. Also in Valencia is a Forest Camp, a 2.2 hectare of land, with large nipa houses, cottages, a backpaker's den, a tree house and a huge conference hall, a vast camping area and interesting hike trail backpakers will enjoy. At Forest Camp you can swim in cool freshwater pool, picnic, camp or trek nearby mountains and falls.
